“21 Cruise ships confirmed for 2017”

The year 2017 is off to a good start as Tonga prepares and looks forward of welcoming and serving cruise ships arriving at our shore throughout the year. At the beginning of the cruise ship season 21cruise ships confirmed to be visiting the Friendly Islands which includes Tongatapu, Vava’u and Ha’apai.

Over the past few years, we have seen a significant development in the cruise market as the arrival number of cruise ship increased, and which has resulted in a positive impact on our social and economic development as a whole. Led by the Cruise Steering Committee, the cruise market has seen a huge improvement in the operations of the cruise days and cultural events, traditional welcomes and farewells are still maintained at its finest.

In the month of January the Sea Princess and Silver Whisper visited Tongatapu. A line up of four Cruise ships is scheduled for the month of February which include Maasdam, Albatross, Pacific Princess and Queen Elizabeth. Pacific Princess was cancelled due to deep depression moving across the Northeast Pacific interfering with the Pacific Princess itinerary.

Queen Elizabeth it is still confirmed to visit Tonga on the 18th February 2017, and will be handled by shipping agent Pacific Forum Line and operated by Rising Sun. Queen Elizabeth will be tied to Vuna Wharf at 9:00 am and departed at 5:00 pm according to schedule.

The other cruise ships, will be catered by both of the Shipping Agents, Pacific Forum Line and Dateline Transam and operators Jones Travel, Rising Sun and Tonga Holidays.
